Howard Raymond Aker, age 95 and longtime resident of Clarendon passed away Wednesday in Stuttgart. A son of the late Adam and Maude Aker, he was born October 14, 1918 in Ulm. Howard was a 1936 graduate of Ulm High School and later received instruction at the School of Art in Memphis.

Howard grew up on the Aker family farm in Ulm and developed a lifelong love for the industry. He worked for a time in Dumas and in 1947 was contracted by Wallace Chambers to work his farmland. Later he located to the Bethlehem community where he enjoyed working the land until he was in his eighty’s.

Howard and Lotus Lindsey were married December 21, 1944 and through the years lived in Dumas, Roe and Clarendon. After Lotus passed away, he continued to live life in an active and positive manner. He loved to hunt, spending many cold mornings out in his favorite part of the woods and many a day at a favorite fishing hole. Howard was of the Methodist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two children, Ronnie Aker and Barbara McCurley and two siblings, Warren Aker and Margaret Smith.

Howard’s immediate surviving family members include three children, Lynn Aker and wife, Marcia of Clarendon, Sandra Lovell of Clarendon and Beverly and Paul Hayes of Carlisle, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
